Simpsons Cancelled???

Pictured: Dan Castellaneta's new salary

Of course by now we all know that "The Simpsons" will return for at least another two seasons but it was actually quite close for the longest running animated series in television history. Apparently the studio, who has probably seen the last 10 years of the show, wanted the voice actors to take a 30% pay cut on their salaries and of course the voice actors who probably have no idea just how unfunny the show has become didn't want that. In the end of course the actors agreed to the 30% pay cut and agreed to get back in the studio and force out another two seasons.

"The Simpsons" is a mixed bag of emotions for me. On the one hand I have many fond memories of sitting in my room as a kid watching this brilliant animated show that was always sharp, funny, and entertaining. The influence its had on our culture is right up there with The Golden Age of television. But on the other hand, the show has been damn near unwatchable for the past 10 years or so. I suppose something should be said for the voice actors taking the pay cut just to keep a show, that has become a television icon, going. It wasn't an issue of the aging star who has mismanaged their money for an entire lifetime needing to keep working well past their prime just to keep the lights on, Ric Flair. Dan Castellaneta, who voices Homer, has a net worth of over 60 million.

I suppose I like that, in this day and age, a group of actors chose to make less money rather than cancel something that means a lot to a lot of people.
